Last weekend I attended the first every Fish and Ships Festival in Whitby, a celebration of the fishing heritage of the town and its reputation for great fish and chips.
There were lots of events organised over the two day event including many cooking demonstrations, tours of the ship yard Parkol who manufacture trawlers, fish filleting demonstrations and much more.
Alongside the local chefs were Jean Christophe Novelli and Brian Turner who both gave demos on the main stage. Jean Christophe hung around to present the cash price for the angling competition held in the upstairs of Quayside Fish and Chip Restaurant.
This was a great event and I am sure it will grow year on year. Well done to the organisers.
I have been in fish and chips for 21 years and currently hold the position on President of the National Federation of Fish Friers
