I am lucky enough to be invited to many different events through my industry role. It is certainly very varied and I meet lots of characters along the way.
This week I was invited to the British Kebab Awards. The awards are organised by Ibrahim Dogus, who I also work with as part of the British Takeaway Campaign. Ibrahim is a really lovely guy who has worked hard to build a chain of restaurants in London. The Kebab Awards are held at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster.
I was sat on the British Takeaway Campaign table with with a few of the other members and a fashion designer called Barbaros Sansal.
The day after the awards I had a meeting later morning but was free from 11.30 until my train at 8.30 so I had some time to kill. Some friends of mine own a fish cake company in the northeast, Larry’s Fishcakes, and they were exhibiting at the International Food Exhibition at Excel. It was too good an opportunity to miss for a quick catch up so I jumped on the tube and DLR up to the venue.
Larry’s make the breaded Fishcakes we sell and Jenny makes all of these! Really lovely family business and great to see them doing so well!
I was back in the shop on Wednesday but Thursday I was in for a real treat! Two of the best fish and chip restaurants in the country, Millers of Haxby and Longsands Fish Kitchen of Tynemouth, were putting a pop up collaboration night on at Miller’s.
The diners were treated to some of the finest dishes I have ever eaten. It’s great to see shops working together and doing something really special!
I have been in fish and chips for 21 years and currently hold the position on President of the National Federation of Fish Friers
